NOT-A-CORNFIELD BLUE PHASE

An interactive ambient lighting array.

Working in collaboration with Lauren Bon on her "Not-A-Cornfield" project, over 50 blue beacons were planted in this 40 acre site by downtown Los Angeles for a period of 4 months. We worked with Scott Froschauer to build the array of blue lights that mirrored stellar constellations and responded to the moving metro trains.

The project included contributing ideas about soil remediation, slope retention and mostly water distribution. There was an early proposal for a lighting system that was node based and would signal soil and atmosphere conditions throughout the field at night, but this was adapted to an interactive lighting system that included lighting the Los Angeles City Hall for a night.

Other related projects discussed were to design a fountain that would operate purely on solar energy to set up a sterling engine and pump a single drop of water at a time over the length of an old rail road rail found on the site. Infranatural is called upon regularly to contribute ideas about community interaction and creative engagement of the surrounding population.
